Night Sky Program at Oceano Campground

Pismo Beach , CA : On Thursday, April 19, there will be an interesting night sky conjunction of the moon, Venus, the Pleiades, and Hyades (star clusters).  To observe this special event, State Park staff and Docents will be on hand at the Oceano Campground, Pismo State Beach with telescopes and information.  The location is in the back of the Oceano Campground, near the parking area for the trail to the dunes.  The campground entrance station will have further information that evening on where to go.

Visitors are invited after 7:30 PM.  Please dress warmly in case of cool or windy weather.  Bring binoculars and a flashlight with a red lens.  We will provide colored cellophane to transform your light so as to protect everyone’s night vision.  Sunset is at 7:35 that evening, and we will begin with an orientation to night sky viewing and use of binoculars to enhance what you see.  We will begin aligning telescopes as the sky darkens, and expect to begin viewing by 8:00 PM, and then be on hand until 9:00 or 9:30.

Cloudy or foggy weather will cancel this event, and it will be rescheduled to Saturday, April 21 at the same time if this occurs.  Please call the Morro Bay State Park Museum of Natural History at (805) 772-2694 ext 105 for further information.
