California State Parks Hosts Informational Meeting on New Coastal Properties
San Simeon, CA - California State Parks will host the fourth in a series of public meetings on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the Cambria Veterans Memorial Building.
Nick Franco, District Superintendent of the San Luis Obispo Coast District, will share with the community recent inventories of the new coastal properties identifying the natural and cultural resources. In addition, Franco will discuss areas of interest identified by public comment regarding the planning of the newly acquired state park property west of Highway One. Previously this was private property and now as part of San Simeon State Park, public access will be provided while protecting the natural and cultural resources.
"Like any new land acquisition for State Parks, we need to gather the data to establish a balance between protection of resources and recreational use as it relates to the needs of the land," said District Superintendent Nick Franco.
San Simeon Sector Superintendent Ed Redig of San Luis Obispo Coast District stated, "As we work towards opening the northern coastal access of San Simeon State Park to the public, we also want to see the pristine fabric of this coastal environment remain intact for generations to come."
California State Parks will continue to work with its agency partners including California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), California Coastal Conservancy and California Coastal Commission.
The Cambria Veterans Memorial Building is located at 1000 Main Street in Cambria, CA. For more information contact District Superintendent Nick Franco at (805) 927-2026.
