State Parks seek public input for Habitat Conservation Plan
This public workshop will concern the Habitat Conservation Plan for
the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area (ODSVRA) and certain
San Luis Obispo Coast District State Parks.
Wednesday, June 8, 6 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Embassy Suites Hotel, 333 Madonna Road, San Luis Obispo, CA
California State Parks is currently preparing a Habitat Conservation
Plan (HCP) for six coastal parks within San Luis Obispo County. The
HCP will be designed to accommodate recreational use within the covered
parks while protecting and benefiting populations of threatened and
endangered species that occur within those parks. On April 19, 2005,
State Parks held a public workshop during which the public provided
a number of questions, comments, and concerns via a focus group format.
This second workshop will provide an opportunity for members of the
public to:
· become further informed about the goals, objectives, measures,
and strategies associated with State Park's habitat conservation efforts;
· raise questions and offer suggestions regarding what the plan
should cover and how threatened and endangered species can be protected
while still allowing for access and recreation within these six park
properties; and
· productively and constructively interact with others within
the region to suggest problem-solving approaches to endangered species
management along this portion of the central Coast of California.
State Park units covered by the plan are: Estero Bluffs, Morro Strand
State Beach, Morro Bay State Park, Montana de Oro State Park, Pismo
Dunes Natural Preserve, and ODSVRA. State Parks anticipates that the
HCP will include the western snowy plover, California least tern,
California red-legged frog, tidewater goby, Morro shoulder band snail,
and state and federally-listed plant species. This workshop is designed
to facilitate an information exchange and interaction among participants
and State Parks. Information regarding the HCP process, topics covered
in an HCP, and the Workshop agenda will be posted at: www.slostateparks.com
by clicking on "General
Park Information."
