Information on Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area
Alternative Access Study
The State Vehicular Recreation Areas or SVRAs, are OHV parks that are operated by the OHMVR Division of California State Parks.
The Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area District recently completed the Alternative Access Study for the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area. The primary purpose of the study is to identify alternative routes for a road to the camping areas on the beach and the Off Highway Vehicle riding area in the dunes that would avoid vehicles having to drive through the mouth of Arroyo Grande Creek. The second objective of this study is to identify and assess alternative equestrian routes to and from the beach. The detailed study took 1 ½ years to complete and was prepared by Condor EnvironmentalPlanning Services with the assistance of Penfield and Smith Engineers.
Six alternative routes are identified. The study includes the results of extensive biological and archaeological surveys of each of the alternative routes, environment impact analysis and policy consistency analysis of each of the alternatives, maps and illustrations, a geographic database, preliminary engineering designs, as well as construction and maintenance cost estimates.
