DISTINGUISHING MARKS
Head and body: males to 8 ft.; female to 6 ft. Weight: males to 600 lb; females to 200 lbs. This is a small brown (blackish when wet) sea lion with a high forehead. Has small, pointed ears and large eyes.

DISTRIBUTION
Pacific Coast; from B.C. south to California and coast of Mexico.

HABITAT
Gregarious; marine, occasionally seen on rocky beaches. Can swim 10 mph (16kmph) when after food. Principal food, fish and squid. Has lived 23 years in captivity. Polygamous; females breed at 3 years, males at 5. Breeds shortly after pups are born.
