Great-Horned Owl
(Bubo virginianus)
This owl is large with ear tufts or “horns”. Its habitat varies from forest to open desert. The call is a series of 3 to 8 loud deep hoots, the second and third hoots often short and rapid. It feeds on small rodents, often swallowing them whole.
