Morro Dunes Sandspit

The Morro Bay sandspit is an ecologically diverse area that creates a unique barrier of sand dunes separating Morro Bay from the Pacific Ocean. The sandspit also forms the northern extension of Montana de Oro State Park. The sandspit portion is approximately four miles long. The sands form dunes from the wind that is driven and derived from sedimentary material such as molten and sedimentary deposits of rivers or streams. Some of the sand dunes can reach as high as 100 feet. The Morro Dunes Sandspit can best be reached by boat or kayak.
