Limekiln - California State Parks of the San Luis Obispo Coast
The park features breathtaking views of the Big Sur Coast, the beauty of the redwoods, the rugged coast and the cultural history of limekilns. The park has 33 campsites. Hike half a mile through fragrant redwoods to four kiln towers, adjacent by a stream. In the late 19th century, these ovens supplied a thriving industry: Limestone was ‘‘cooked’’ out of the rocks—a real stone soup—for use in building materials.

Limekiln - California State Parks of the San Luis Obispo CoastLimekiln Canyon, in the heart of Big Sur is part of the California State Parks, adding coast redwood forests in rugged canyons to the state park system. Limekiln State Park provides access from hwy 1 to Cone Peak and Los Padres National Forest high country, and includes historic limekilns, waterfalls, camping, hiking trails, and ocean front beach access.
